The Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire (PWO) website was established in June 2007 and is the only official website, recognised by the PWO Area Regimental Headquarters and the PWO Trustees. It was established to provide information on the Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire. Although some information on the 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Own) will be carried on this website, the main purpose of it will be to provide historical information on the Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire and its antecedent Regiments; the West Yorkshire Regiment (14th of Foot) and the East Yorkshire Regiment (15th of Foot). This information will include not only the history of the Regiment, but will also include subject material relating to the Association - those who have served in the Regiment and, most importantly, the Museum and Archives.

The PWO website is designed to allow you to discover something of this famous Infantry Regiment and its two antecedent Regiments - whether you are a past member of the Regiment, thinking of joining the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Own), a historian, interested in your family history, or are simply fascinated by military matters.

This page is designed to tell you what is available on the website, so that you will have no difficulty in finding your information.  Use the links on the left to find out more about an important part of Yorkshire’s military heritage.

The British Army is constantly evolving, to keep pace with a quickly changing world. In 2006, it was decided to amalgamate the Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire with two other famous Yorkshire infantry regiments and on 6 June 2006, The Yorkshire Regiment was born.

You can learn more about the Regiment and the activities of the Yorkshire Regiment, who carry the history and traditions of the Prince of Wales’s Own, by visiting their website.
